MISSION STATEMENT

We believe that each child that comes through our doors has a specific mission for their life. At TGC we are committed to overseeing this mission by instilling the following life qualities in each child that we come in contact with:

HOPE - TGC staff is committed to instilling an expectation and anticipation of excellence in all students.
FAITH - We will strive to instill a confidence, trust and belief in oneself to each child.
JOY - Students at TGC will learn to find delight and a source of pleasure in physical activity.

1. Are the programs set up to positively influence your child's other activities and education?

At Tarka Gymnastics Club (TGC) we realize that gymnastics is a sport that has a positive effect not only on all others sports, but also on educational performance. Research has shown that children who participate in gymnastics have an increased performance in the following educational areas: social and organizational skills, sensory processing, postural control, bilateral integration and body awareness. The curriculum at TGC is designed around the age appropriate developmental milestones laid out by the British Gymnastic development program. Our 2-5 year old program is based around fun and is intended to keep your child on the right track to develop skills for use in school. Our 6 and older program is designed not only around the BG developmental milestones, but also the FIG recommended skill progressions.

2. The teaching style of the club ?

We don't tell our coaches to be nice. We hire nice people. All of the coaches truly care about children and want your child's gymnastics experience to be positive. If your child is shy, outgoing, audio learner, visual learner, picks things up immediately, would like to be shown a skill a few times before trying on her own, or a bit rowdy, our coaches do their best to figure this out and coach according to your child's personality.

To facilitate a strong gymnast- coach bond our coaches are scheduled to coach the same classes each week. That means that when your child comes to class she will know whom her coach is and how the class will be run. It is our belief that children do best with consistency. Our coaches try to avoid conflicts that require them to miss classes.

3. What are the class sizes?

If a gymnastics class has fewer students in it, each child will receive more personalized attention, learn more and have more fun. When Gymnasts are young it is easier for a coach to maintain control over the class and make sure each gymnast understands the concepts and instructions. Our smaller class sizes make sure that fundamental concepts are not being missed. A smaller class size also allows our coaches to ensure that gymnasts are not developing bad habits or improper technique.

Our gym limits all gymnastics classes to a maximum of just 6 - 8 gymnasts per coach.

Tarka Gymnastic Club

Has a family run atmosphere to it, where coaches regularly interact with parents and give feed back on how their child is doing. The coaches are teaching the children because that's what they want to do, not because they may get financial rewards if they do so. Everyone is treated equally what ever their status, what ever their title, no one person is bigger than the club.

With over 270 children a week attending the club it has become very popular, but despite its popularity, its quality coaching structure and unity has been unaffected. There are constantly children wanting to join. We are about teaching children the art of gymnastics along with discipline & respect, it all goes hand in hand for such an exciting and adventurous sport. Badges, Certificates, Rosettes, Competitions are all reachable for every single child that attends the club.

We accept all children from all backgrounds, with only the stipulation that they and their parents must abide by the club's rules and regulations. These are in place to protect every aspect of the club and it's children.

We take pride on offering what we feel parents and children want and that is a safe, well structured, friendly place for children to attend.
We are aware we can't please all the people all the time but we do our utmost to please most of the people most of the time. What can be assured is the club has a heartbeat, a family feel, to it and a friendliness that can't be made, or manufactured or reproduced. Phil Woodcock (Head Coach), Tina Woodcock (Club Secretary) has a passion for the club to be good and Phil's Daughters Laura and Millie has that same passion on making sure all the things they miss are equally as good, between them all the club is second to none.

The coaches and helpers at the club have helped create the club into what it is today, it's the team work of everyone that make the clubs so warm.

We are not affiliated to British Gymnastic but to a new oganistaion UK Gymnastics, we are the pioneers in the South West to HELP push UK Gymnastics to a new level.
We are proud to be holding a national UKG competition in June 2012 at Tarka Gymnastics Club.

Gymnastics is a very enjoyable sport that is practiced by all ability participants and ethnic communities across the United Kingdom. Gymnastics can be enjoyed by everyone and it is a great way to keep your body healthy. Gymnastics has been practiced for thousands of years back to ancient times and has been part of the Olympics for over 120 years.

Interest in gymnastics has been strong, especially with the 2012 London Olympics on the horizon. Children from school environments, children take part in the General gymnastics sessions offered by Leisure & Sports Centres across the UK, and many enjoy membership of UK Gymnastics registered clubs. However UK Gymnastics looks after the real home grown grassroots gymnasts.
